संत तुकाराम इनकी ख्याति बहुत दूर-दूर तक फैली हुयी थी एक बार महाराष्ट्र देश के राजा महाराजा क्षत्रपति शिवाजी ने भी इनकी बहुत बढाई सुनी - दर्शनों की अभिलाषा उत्पन्न हुई कई आदमी बुलाने के लिये भेजे पर तुकाराम जी ने जाने से इन्कार कर दिया और कहा कि भाई साधू को हमेशा रईसों कि सुहबत से बचना चाहिये। साधन करने वाले अमीरों के संग रहकर कभी सफलता नही प्राप्त कर सकता जो मालिक का बन्दा हो उसको माया के बन्दे के पास जाने से क्या काम??????

बुलाने वाले लौट गये। सब हाल शिवाजी से कहा। इन बातो ने उनकी लालसा और भी बढा दी और एक दिन वह अपने आठ मंत्रियों को संग लिये हुए तुकाराम जी कि सेवा आ उपस्थित हुआ।

शिवाजी ने आते ही बहुत से बहूमूल्य रत्न तुकाराम कि भेट मे रखे। जब तुकाराम जी लेने से मना करने लगे तब बोला कि महाराज आप सन्त है ईश्वर भक्तों को कुछ न कुछ भेट अवश्य स्वीकृत करना चाहिये ताकि हमारा भी उपकार हो।

तुकाराम जी बोले हम तुमको एक दृष्टांत सुनाते है।सुनो एक बार एक राजा वन में शिकार खेलने गया था दोपहर का समय था प्यास लगी पानी की खेाज करने लगा। देखा पास ही कुटीया मंे एक साधू रहता है इसके पास पानी अवश्य ही मिल जायगा चलो चलकर प्यास को शान्त करें। ऐसा विचार कर राजा साधू के पास पहुचां। घेाडा छोड दिया जाकर साधू को दण्डवत कि और पानी मांगा। साधू ने राजा को बैठने का आसन दिया और ठण्डे जल को पिघलाकर उसकी तृप्ति कि और बात चीत करने लगा। थोडी देर के सत्संग से राजा के हदृय मंे इस बात का विश्वास हो गया कि यह कोई बडा अच्छा साधू है। उसकी कुछ न कुछ सेवा करनी चाहिये परन्तु मेरे पास यहां क्या रक्खा है। जो इसकी भ्ेाट चढाउं किसी तरह यह राजधानी में चलता तो अच्छा होता।

बोला महाराज मेरी यह अभिलाषा है कि यदि आप किसी तरह मेरे घर पर चलते तो धन्य-धान्य से आपकी सेवा करता। यहां मेरे पास कुछ नही है जो आपको दे सकू राठ हठ ,बाल हठ मसहूर है। साधू ने दो चार बार इन्कार किया परन्तु जब देखा कि राजा किसी तरह नही मानता है बोला -अच्छा चलो चलता हूॅ।

दोनो चल दिये चलते-चलते रास्ते ही में शाम हो गयी राजा ने कहा महाराज थेाडी देर ठहरिये मै सन्ध्या कर लूॅ फिर आपके साथ चलूॅ।

साधू बैठ गया देखता रहा कि राजा कैसी सन्ध्या करता है जब वह सन्ध्या कर चुका प्रार्थना करने लगा हे प्रभू मुझको धन और वैभव दीजिये मुझको और मेरी प्रजा केा सब प्रकार का सुख दीजिये।

साधू ने सब बाते सुनी उठ के चल दिया राजा ने बहुत रोका पर वह नही रूका कहने लगा जब तुम खुद मंगता हो तो मुझकेा क्या दोगे ?? मालूम होता है कि तुम्हारा धन तुम्हारा नही है किसी का दिया हआ है जब तुम दूसरे से मांग रहे हो तो क्या मै उससे नहीं मांग सकता तुम से हाथ फैलाने कि क्या आवश्यकता है।

साधू तो चल दिया राजा लज्जित हो गया और उसी समय से उसे बैराग्य प्राप्त हो गया।

इसी तरह हे शिवाजी क्या यह रत्न जो तुम मुझे देना चाहते हो तुम्हारे नहीे है तो फिर दूसरे कि वस्तु तुमसे कैसे ले सकता हूॅ और क्या अधिकार तुमको देने का है।

Shivaji kept many precious jewels in the gift of Tukaram as soon as he came. When Tukaram Ji refused to take it, he said that Maharaj is a saint, the devotees must accept something so that we too can be benefited.

Tukaram Ji said, let us tell you a parable. Once upon a time, a king went to play hunting in the forest. It was midday and started thirsty water. Saw that there is a monk in the hut nearby, water will definitely be found near it, let's go and calm the thirst. After thinking like this, the king reached to the monk. Leaving the ghera, he prostrated himself to the monk and asked for water. The monk gave the king a seat to sit and melted the cold water and started talking about his fulfillment. A little satsang led to the belief in the king's eyes that he was a very good monk. He should do some service, but what is left of me here. Which would have been better if it had run in the capital.

Said Maharaj, I wish that if you somehow walked into my house, you would serve me with blessings. Here I have nothing that can give you Rath Hatha, Bal Hatha is popular. The monk refused two or four times, but when he saw that the king does not believe in any way, he said - well, let's go.


They both walked and walked in the evening on the way, the king said, "Maharaj, wait a while, I should make a treat and then go with you."

The monk sat and watched what the king did when he started praying and said, Lord, give me wealth and glory, give me and my people all kinds of happiness.

The monk listened to all the things and got up and the king stopped a lot, but he did not stop saying, what will you give me when you ask yourself ?? It seems that your wealth is not yours, it has been given to someone, when you are asking for another, can I not ask for what is needed to spread your hand from you.

The monk walked away and the king was ashamed and from that time he got disinterested.

Similarly, O Shivaji, is this gem that you want to give to me or not, then how can I take other things from you and what right do you have to give.
