नचिकेता के पिता का नाम वाजश्रवा था। एक बार वाजश्रवा ने एक बहुत बडा यज्ञ किया। यज्ञ के समाप्त होने पर उन्होने अपनी सब बृद्व गायें दान में दे दी। आश्रम के लोगो व नचिकेता को ये बात अच्छी नहीं लगी। उसने कहा - आप मुझे किसे देगे ???
जब नचिकेता की बात महर्षि कि समझ मे आयी तो उन्होने अप्रसन्न होकर कहा कि मैं तुम्हे यमराज को दूगाॅ । नचिकेता आज्ञाकारी पुत्र था। अतः पिता कि आज्ञा का पालन करने के लिये वह यमराज कि खेाज मे चल दिया। तीन दिन तक वन में भटकने के बाद जब नचिकेता कि आंखे खुली तो उसने देखा कि यमराज सामने खडे हैं। यमराज ने कहा कि ऐसी तुम पर कौन से विपत्ति आ पडी है जिसके कारण तुम मेरे पास आना चाहते हो ?????
नचिकेता ने कहा कि मैं तो पिता कि आज्ञा से आपकी सेवा मे आया हूॅ। अब मुझे आपकी आज्ञा का पालन करना है। यमराज ने प्रसन्न होकर उसे तीन वरदान मांगने के लिये कहा। नचिकेता ने तीन वरदान मांगे-1.. मेरे पिता जी मुझसे प्रसन्न हो जायें। 2...मुझे स्वर्ग लोक में पहुचने कि विद्या बतलाइये। 3.....मृत्यु क्यों होती है और मृत्यु के पश्चात क्या होता है।
यमराज ने नचिकेता कि तीनों बातों को पूरा किया। नचिकेता के जीवन से हमको यह शिक्षा मिलती है कि पिता कि आज्ञा का पालन करना पुत्र का परम धर्म है।
व्यास जी के पिता का नाम पाराशर ऋषि था और उनकी माता एक मछुवे कि कन्या थी। इनका रंग काला था, इसलिये इनका नाम कृष्ण रखा गया। इनका जन्म एक द्वीप में हुआ था। अतः इनको द्वैपायन भी कहा गया। इन दोनेां को मिलाकर इन्हें द्वैपायन व्यास कहा जाता है । पाण्डु और धृतराष्ट्र इन्हीं के पुत्र थे। व्यास ने महायुद्व को रोकने के लिये भरसक प्रयास किया पर उनकी बात किसी ने न मानी इन्हीं व्यास ने एक महान ग्रन्थ लिखा जिसका नाम उन्होने जय रखा जो बाद में महाभारत कहलाया। इसमें उस समय चैवीस हजार श्लोक थे। बाद में इनके शिष्योें ने यह संख्या एक लाख कर दी।
महाभारत के समान संसार में दूसरा कोई विशाल ग्रन्थ नहीं है। इनमें मावन-जीवन से सम्बन्धित प्रत्येक विषय के सम्बन्ध में विस्तारपूर्वक लिखा गया है। वही कारण है कि इसको पांचवा वेद भी कहते हैं। गीता इसी का साराशं है।
Nachiketa
Nachiketa's father's name was Vajashrava. Once, Vajashrava performed a huge sacrifice. At the end of the yajna, he donated all his old cows. Ashram's people and Nachiketa did not like this. He said - Whom will you give me ???
When Maharishi came to understand about Nachiketa, he was unhappy and said that I will give you to Yamraj. Nachiketa was an obedient son. Therefore, to obey the father's orders, he went to the camp of Yamraj. After wandering in the forest for three days, when Nachiketa's eyes opened, he saw that Yamraj was standing in front. Yamraj said that what kind of misfortune has come on you because of which you want to come to me ?????
Nachiketa said that I have come to your service with the permission of the father. Now I have to follow your orders. Yamraj was pleased and asked him to ask for three boons. Nachiketa asked for three boons - 1 .. My father should be happy with me. 2 ... Tell me the knowledge of reaching heaven. 3 ..... Why does death happen and what happens after death.
Yamraj fulfilled all the three things that Nachiketa did. From the life of Nachiketa, we get the lesson that obeying the father's command is the supreme religion of the son.
Vyasji
Vyas ji's father's name was Parashar Rishi and his mother was a fisherman's daughter. His color was black, so he was named Krishna. He was born on an island. Hence, they were also called Dwaipayan. Together these two are called Dwaipayan Vyas. Pandu and Dhritarashtra were the sons of these. Vyas tried his best to stop the Mahayudv, but he did not listen to them. These Vyas wrote a great book, which he named Jai, which was later called Mahabharata. There were 24 thousand verses at that time. Later his disciples increased this number to one lakh.
Like Mahabharata, there is no other huge book in the world. It has been written in detail in relation to every topic related to life. That is the reason why it is also called the fifth Veda. The Gita is the essence of it.
